Social Justice at the UCSC supports a network of student activists and shares resources to further their work. Through workshops, meetings and conferences, web-based communications and articles, our work supports effective student activism and creates an institutional memory of activist work by students, staff, and faculty.

STUDENT ACTIVIST CONFERENCE
Every Winter Quarter the Social Justice Coordinators organize the Student Activist Conference, which features a guest speaker and a collection of student-run workshops concerning a variety of activism-related issues. >
In 2011 the theme of the conference was "Relationship, Strategy, Solidarity: Thinking Globally, Acting Locally", and Dr. Vijay Prashad, author of The Darker Nations: A People's History of the Third World, was the inspiring and much-appreciated keynote speaker.
STUDENT AND COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT
Social Justice at the UCSC hopes to be a useful resource for students engaged in activism and social justice work on campus and in the community. We put on periodic workshops related to social justice activism, such as:
- The upcoming "Social Justice, Community Service and the Project of Collective Liberation" workshop with social justice activists and leaders in community service.
- "Not Just Chump Change: An Information Session and Workshop on Careers in Social Justice and Turning Your Activist Experience into a Skill Set" event in partnership with CAPS.
- Social Justice Potlucks, wherein activists congregate to get to know one another and share experiences that help inform their approaches to organizing.
We are happy to co-sponsor and assist in organizing most events that fall within the province of social justice- let us know if you need help with an event!
