Building the Beloved Community 

Saturday, January 14 (8:30am-1:30pm)

UCSC is excited to partner with UChicago Lab Schools and UChicago Charter School to celebrate and honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.  We expect more than 200 volunteers to join us for our annual MLK Day of Service.

On Saturday, January 14, volunteers will contribute service projects at more than a dozen community partner organization service sites. Past projects have included health fair event prep, painting, office clean-up, workshop facilitation, canvassing, and much more! Questions? Contact

Event Schedule

All on-campus portions of the event will take place at Ida Noyes Hall at 1212 E. 59th St., across the street from Rockefeller Chapel (click here for a map). 

8:30 a.m. - 9:00 a.m.                 Check-In (lobby) & Breakfast Snacks (Cloister Club)

9:00 a.m. - 9:15 a.m.                  Welcome (Cloister Club)

9:15 a.m. - 10:00 a.m.                 Dismissal and Travel to Service Sites

10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.               Service Projects at Community Organizations

9:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.                On-Campus Service Option (Third Floor Theater)

Meal packaging activity with Kraft Heinz Micronutrient Campaign in partnership with Stop Hunger Now. There will be an educational component before and after service on hunger awareness. Stations include: funneling ingredients; weighing; sealing; boxing; moving meals to truck. Click here for video to learn more!
