Afternoon Tea with UCSC: Love and Communi-Tea
Ah Valentine's Day, a time to celebrate love, elevate love, and enact love. What does that mean in our community engagement?
This Afternoon Tea with UCSC we will unpack love. We will reflect on our definition of it, contemplate the evolution of it, and consider its function as a value to motivate us in this work. Remember, as bell hooks reminds us...
"Cultures of domination rely on the cultivation of fear as a way to ensure obedience [...] When we choose to love we choose to move against fear - against alienation and separation. The choice to love is the choice to connect - to find ourselves in the other" -bell hooks, All About Love: New Visions
Love sounds like a pretty apt and wildly needed motivator with that view, doesn't it?
Join us this Friday to dive in.
And, of course, tea and cookies will be served!
About Afternoon Tea with UCSC:
Join us for weekly conversations about Chicago, civic engagement, and social change. These lightly-facilitated roundtables happen weekly and feature guest speakers, learning and reflection space, and social networking conversation over tea and other hot beverages, cookies, and snacks. Open to all students.
