Seeds of Justice is an academic year-long student leadership development program focused on social change for selected first-year students.
The program provides students with the opportunity to have and reflect on meaningful service and social change experiences, increase their awareness of complex social justice issues in Chicago, and practice valuable leadership and community-building skills to guide their work in creating change on and off campus. During large and small group discussions, speaker events, and engagement activities, and in concert with their own civic work, Seeds of Justice students are empowered to use what they have learned to become actors for change.
The cohort meets weekly to engage with community leaders addressing a variety of issues facing the city of Chicago. Seeds of Justice students will learn what inspires and informs their ongoing work for social change; gain context on these issues through readings, activities, and discussions; and spend time reflecting on and learning from civic engagement experiences. Additionally, over the course of the year all participants will make ongoing contributions to a community organization whose work aligns with their interests.
