During Orientation Week, more than 1,700 new students spent a day of service engaging in environmental projects, working with advocacy groups, and supporting local K-12 schools throughout the South and West Sides of Chicago.

On Martin. Luther King Jr. Day, 233 or so volunteers worked at 15 sites both on the University campus and in neighboring Woodlawn, Hyde Park, Washington Park, South Shore, and Bronzeville, despite the snow storm.
